Describe your office culture. How does it contribute to your success?
Whenever I hire someone, I explain that there are a few important things about our office culture:
- We have an open door policy.
- We don't hire prima donnas.
- We encourage creativity from everyone irrespective of role or title.
These things make for an environment that fosters collaboration and openness, which ultimately leads to success.
Any secret talents? Do they ever play a role in your approach to the work?
I was a bit of a geek in high school – a member of the debating club and the Model United Nations, and an avid participant in public speaking competitions. I had to think on my feet and come up with ideas and arguments that were compelling, and it's a skill that I use to this day. I love the pressure of a challenge, and I don't mind a good debate if that's what it takes to get great ideas.
What is the single most important ingredient needed to make a brand successful?
Courage. I think some of the most successful brands have been courageous, whether that be entering new channels before they were tried and true, creating new and unique products or having the courage to poke fun at themselves.
What is your biggest "Aha!" moment in life?
The moment I became a mom. You can know people who have children, you can play with other people's children, but it will never compare to the emotional bond that exists between a mother and child. For me, it's what life is really about.
Who or what is greeting you at home after a long day at the office?
My six-month-old son, Peter, my four-year-old son, Marcus, and my wonderful and talented husband. I love my boys. They are my inspiration.
